Gasket mount

A gasket mount is a keyboard construction style where the plate and PCB assembly sits on a ring of soft, flexible material, such as poron or silicone, sandwiched between the top and bottom halves of the case, rather than being screwed rigidly to the case like a traditional tray mount.

Because the plate floats slightly instead of being clamped down hard, a gasket mount typically gives a softer, more cushioned feel to each keystroke, and it can also change the sound profile, often producing a deeper, less harsh sound than a tray mount of similar materials. The exact feel depends heavily on gasket material, thickness, and how many mounting points the design uses.

Gasket mount keyboards are more common in custom keyboard kits than in budget prebuilt boards, since the design needs more precise case tolerances to work well. A frequent point of confusion is assuming all gasket mounts feel the same, when gasket material and case rigidity change the bounce and sound as much as the mounting style itself.
