Doubleshot

Doubleshot keycaps are made by molding two layers of plastic together, one forming the legend and one forming the rest of the keycap body, so the character is a physical part of the cap rather than something printed or coated on top. Because the legend is plastic all the way through, it cannot rub off or fade with years of typing.

This method costs more than printing or laser etching, since it requires precise molds for each legend and color combination, which is why doubleshot keycap sets are usually priced higher than single-shot or pad-printed alternatives. It also limits how thin or detailed a legend can be compared to some printing methods.

When buying doubleshot keycaps, check that the set covers the layout you need, since manufacturers sometimes skip less common keys in doubleshot runs and back-fill them with a different printing method. Confusing doubleshot with dye-sublimation is common. Both resist wear well, but dye-sub only works reliably on lighter legend colors, while doubleshot can use any color combination.
