Keycap profile

Keycap profile refers to the height of each keycap and how much its shape is sculpted, or angled, differently row by row to match where fingers naturally rest. Common profiles include OEM and Cherry, which are moderately sculpted and close in height, SA, which is tall and heavily sculpted, and XDA, which is short and uniform across every row.

Profile affects both feel and compatibility. A tall, heavily sculpted profile like SA can feel dramatic and comfortable to some typists but may interfere with certain stabilizer or switch housings, while a uniform low profile like XDA suits a flatter typing style and works well on smaller layouts where reach matters more.

When choosing a profile, check that it is compatible with your switch stems, since all standard MX-compatible profiles fit MX-style switches but very short profiles can sometimes sit differently against certain switch housings. A common mistake is buying a keycap set without checking row sculpting, then finding that keys from a different set do not sit at a comfortable angle when mixed in.
